Location:

Jump Rock is found at the bottom of Macquarie Pass on the left hand side coming from Albion Park. Macquarie Pass is an eight-kilometre-long section of the Illawarra Highway passing through Macquarie Pass National Park. It was opened in 1898.

How to get there:

You will need to drive, as it isn’t close to any train stations or other modes of public transport. If you are travelling from the Albion Park direction, there will be two car parks on either side of the road, park in the one on the left hand side.

From the car park on the left you need to continue straight from the first fork, which slightly veers to the right. The track doesn’t have any signs, but it is fairly obvious which way you should be going. Occasionally the track will split off a few times; one path leads along the water and one path starts to ascend into the bushes- we took the bushes route! Eventually they rejoin, so it doesn’t really matter which route you take.

Continue on the walk until there is a small section of the river that needs to be crossed. There are large rocks to climb over here- but this is how you  know you’re metres away from the main attraction!

When you’ve scrambled over the rocks, turn left and follow up along the rocks until you see a large swimming area with multiple waterfalls flowing down to the last swimming hole.

Usually there will be other people there splashing about that help giveaway you’ve made it!

When you are ready to return home, head back the same way you came.

What to wear:

If you are visiting in summer wear your swimming costume underneath active wear with enclosed shoes for the walk. The path is very muddy in some sections, so there is a possibility there could be leeches!

What to pack:

  • Bring a towel if you plan on swimming
  • Sunscreen
  • A packed lunch to sit and enjoy the scenery- make sure you bring your rubbish home with you!
  • A water bottle
